T.H. Rogers' chess team wins top prize in Nashville

It's another crown for T.H. Rogers' chess team.
Just a few months after having its eighth-grade team declared national
champs at the U.S. Chess Federation's tournament, T.H. Rogers' fifth
graders snagged the title this weekend at the National Chess
Championship in Nashville.
The team — made up of five fifth-graders — took first place in the K-5
category. Sponsored by the U.S. Chess Federation, the 2,100-player
tournament is the largest chess championship in the country for
elementary students.
"They're all giddy," said parent Martha Jenkinson, who runs the
program.
T.H. Rogers' powerhouse chess program has won nearly 10 national
championships since the program was introduced at the school in
2001.Every kindergartener- through third-grader at the school receives
chess instruction during the school day.
The schools also offers after-school lessons and a club.
